The Morning After

“Consciousness is a being, the nature of which is to be conscious of the nothingness of its being.”
Jean Paul Sartre – Being and Nothingness

I have no idea what Sartre means. I once read a book by Sartre titled The Transcendence of the Ego for a philosophy class. I even wrote a paper about it though I couldn’t understand a word.

What I do know is that the the morning after a full moon like the one we had last night, I wake up thinking about things like this and wonder what the psychiatry wards and prisons were like last night.

  1. Hahah! It is a crazily stressful Full Moon, that’s for sure:) I sort of know what Sartre means, and sort of not. It’s always the two opposites coexisting. Today there is a weird anxiety in the air, and attributing it to Full Moon is supposed to make it easier to bear. I think I’ll go out and bring some stuff out of storage, and have a little project today that will keep me half-sane.
What’s keeping you sane these days, Joey?

  2. “Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station!”

Seriously though, the moon is weird. I mean, it’s 400 times smaller than the sun, but also the sun is 400 times farther away, so like, they look the same size? Coincidence!?! Yeah right! ;^)

  3. On the local news here one of the meteorologists had a great little piece on the full moon, which by redefined standards was considered a blue moon.
