I wrote a newspaper column for years until I came to believe that my opinion didn’t matter very much. Of course the columns were limited to 700 words, and with that short allocation of space it was difficult to fully explore anything.  I don’t like ping pong opinions.  There’s too much of that in our world.  Everything is not polarized.  The columns occasionally made going to parties awkward when someone would meet me and say, “Oh, you’re Joey Blum…” Opinions are what they are, little expressions, sometimes meaningful, mostly not, and they change or fade away quickly like so many other things without leaving much substance behind. With that said, I begin a new path of reflection, opinion, and expression on this blog for no particular reason other than one occasionally needs somewhere to deposit the clutter rattling around one’s head.
